Celebrating my 50th all year long

Last month was my 50th birthday, and I promised myself I'd create and maintain a blog through my 50th year. It's a little late, but here we are.
I also set a goal of doing 50 things this year- things which were either interesting or fun, creative or hard, challenging or odd, outside of my comfort zone or simply something I hadn't done before. Naturally, I am way behind, and needing to do much before the year is out.
Some of what I've done so far is to take a cross country trip, see the desert, ride a train in a sleeper car, attend my high school class' 50th birthday bash, run to the top of Sparta mountain (a hill really, but I'm counting it!).
I also opened a brick and mortar retail paint store, and an online Etsy shop. I've started my blog, and in November I am going to be "best man" at my friend Charlie's wedding (yes, I'm a woman, and no, Charlie's not gay. He and I are close friends; it just made sense, and I am honored to be part of his and Jane's wedding day). Other things: I walked the Chelsea highline, took specific, positive steps for my health, learned to solder, ran a 5k, went to Mardi Gras, tried shrimp (eww), and learned to drive to Dover (NJ). Some may seem ordinary, and they are, but not for me. So I have made a start. But I still have many things to do to reach my 50th year celebration goal. And though I have some ideas, some hopes, and some mad desires, I have very little money and am open to suggestions. Oh, and, welcome to my blog.

  2. Vicky, you are awesome and so is your blog! I look forward to more postings! I think one of your fifty things could be to play with a kazoo band! Love you! Pat

  3. You're off--or should I say up--and running (in more ways than one!) with a great start for your "Golden" birthday year celebration. Congrats on the blog. You've really captured yourself, which is a huge accomplishment for such a free spirit! Since you've already demonstrated being the best Best Friend, I know you're going to be the best Best Man, too! I'm looking forward to future blog installments and happy and honored to be a part of your adventure!
